PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding torch which can materialize superior arc start at low cost without being influenced by responsiveness of a manipulator, and also to provide an arc start method in robotic arc welding.;SOLUTION: With a welding torch 4 arriving and stopping at a welding starting position, and with an electric power supplied to a solenoid coil 14, a solenoid shaft 13 moves downward to compress a spring 15. Then, with a welding wire 1 advancing and fed to a workpiece 2, and with a tip end of the welding wire 1 discriminated as short-circuited with the workpiece, the electric power supplied to the solenoid coil is stopped, and the solenoid shaft is pushed up by the spring through high responsiveness. The welding wire is detached from the workpiece, and simultaneously an initial electric current of a small current value is energized, generating an initial arc. Thereafter, with the welding wire regularly fed, it shifts to a regular arc start condition for generating a regular arc.
