PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of inhibiting elution of a harmful trace element having small risk of damaging a combustion furnace, and to provide a method of calculating an additive amount of a harmful trace element elution inhibitor used in determining the additive amount of the harmful trace element elution inhibitor in the method. PSOLUTION: This method of calculating the additive amount of harmful trace element elution inhibitor, comprises: a process for measuring a content of calcium oxide remaining in coal ash when the coal to which the prescribed amount of harmful trace element elution inhibitor is added, is burned in the combustion furnace; a process for calculating the amount of a calcium element contributing on melting of the coal ash in the combustion furnace by subtracting the content of calcium oxide from the additive amount of the harmful trace element elution inhibitor; and a process for deciding the additive amount of harmful trace element elution inhibitor within a range that the amount of calcium contributing on the melting of coal ash does not melt the coal ash in the combustion furnace.
