PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply preparing a polycarbonate resin having a desired viscosity-average molecular weight when a waste aromatic polycarbonate resin is decomposed by an alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution to give an alkali aqueous solution of an aromatic dihydroxy compound containing a terminating agent and then the alkali solution is reused as a part or the whole of raw materials for the aromatic polycarbonate resin. PSOLUTION: When the alkali aqueous solution of the aromatic dihydroxy compound obtained by decomposing the waste aromatic polycarbonate resin by the alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution is reused as the whole or a part of materials for the aromatic polycarbonate resin, the amount of the terminating agent remaining in the aqueous solution is simply measured and the amount of the terminating agent to be thrown into the reaction step is adjusted according to the amount of the terminating agent remaining in the alkali metal salt aqueous solution of the aromatic dihydroxy compound.
