PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shift a path arrangement of an entire network from a current path arrangement to an optimal path arrangement while keeping a packet reachable property.;SOLUTION: A routing shifting method is implemented when shifting from current routing to optimal routing in a grid type wavelength multiplexed optical network comprising a plurality of nodes disposed in a form of a grid, an optical fiber connecting neighboring nodes to transmit a wavelength multiplexed optical signal, and a management apparatus connected with each of the plurality of nodes. A required route is set using a wavelength different from the wavelength used for an optical signal repeated by nodes in both terminals of the non-set required route and used for a wavelength multiplexed optical signal transmitted through the optical fiber located on the required route. If there is an unnecessary route, it is determined whether or not an optical signal can be transmitted through another route if the unnecessary route is canceled. When the unnecessary route can be canceled, an optical signal transmitted through the unnecessary route is saved onto another route and then the unnecessary route is canceled.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
