PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially inexpensively provide a semiconductor optical amplifier and an optical module having high function for saturating polarized wave dependency and gain since a semiconductor optical amplifier heretofore has a difficulty that neither polarized wave dependency nor gain is satisfied or a difficulty that, when the gain is intended to be saturated, it takes time duration in a crystal growth, such as the integration, etc., of a surface emitting laser and the rise of a cost is unavoidable.;SOLUTION: The semiconductor optical amplifier includes both optical waveguides which are separated in a structure by disposing the optical waveguide of an optical resonator for a laser oscillation provided for optical amplifying and the optical waveguide for guiding a light signal so as not to become parallel in the same plane.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
