PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indicator substance capable of objectively and quantitatively determining the presence or absence and strength of especially apocrine odor, of which many people are conscious, among various kinds of body odors, to provide a method for determining the degree of body odor or the effectiveness of deodorant by using the indicator substance; to provide a body odor determination kit for accurately, quickly, and simply determining the type of body odor and the degree of odor, and to provide a method for determining the body odor by using the body odor determination kit.;SOLUTION: The indicator substance for determining body odor contains a β-hydroxy acid compound (1) expressed by formula (1), and at least one selected from a group made of the indicator compound. In the expression, R1, R2 indicate alkyl having 1-4 carbons, and hydrogen atom or alkyl having 1-4 carbons, and the number of carbons in the formula (1) is equal to or less than 10. Additionally, the body odor determining kit contains a color identification reagent reacting with a fatty acid, where the number of carbons of those other than β-hydroxycarboxylic acid and/or β-hydroxycarboxylic acid originating in human sweat is 12 or less.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
