PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently extract monakolin K having a hypocholesterolemic activity from ang-kak containing the monakolin K.;SOLUTION: This method for extracting the monakolin K comprises culturing a strain belonging to the genus Monascus and then extracting the monakolin K from the obtained ang-kak and is characterized by using water-containing ethanol having an ethanol content of 40 to 80% (v/v) as an extraction solvent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
