A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A NOVEL ANTIDIABETIC FORMULATION FROM HUMBOLDTIA DECURRENS.

A process for the preparation of a novel antidiabetic formula¬tion comprising root extract of Humboldtia decurrens mixed with conventional pharmaceutical additives such as solid or liquid diluents, exicipients stabilisers and effective at a dose of 1 g root extract per Kg body weight of diabetic animal, which comprises griding the dried root nodules of Humboldtia decurrens to fine powder, extracting the said powder with a non-polar organic solvent for a period ranging from 20-24 hrs at a temperature in the range of 60-80° C, optionally refluxinc with an organic solvent for a period of 15 to 20 hrs., follow¬ed by evaporating the solvent to get the residue, then crys¬tallising the said residue using lower aliphatic alcohol to get a white powder and mixing the s^id white powder with conventional pharmaceutically accepted additives such as herein described.
