According to the present invention there is provided a nonemissive display comprising: a. an arrangement of discrete microscopic containers; b. first and second electrodes disposed on and covering opposite sides of the arrangement, and c. a voltage source for creating a potential difference between the two electrodes; wherein the display is characterized in that; d. each container is no longer than SOOum along any dimension thereof; e. at least one of the electrodes is visually transparent; and f. each container contains a dielectric fluid and a suspension therein of particles exhibiting surface charges, the fluid and the particles contrasting visually, the potential difference causing the particles to migrate toward one of the electrodes.
