The method is for conversion of a single walled inland water tanker into a double walled inland waterway tanker where the single walled tanker is provided with a floor wall, a port wall, a starboard wall and a deck wall. The walls all limit a hold in which a longitudinal bulkhead and several bulkheads are fitted which divide the hold into tanks. The deck wall and the bulkheads are cut loose along a cutting surface at a distance from the floor wall. The deck wall and bulkheads are then removed and a tank floor is fitted at a distance above the floor wall of the inland water tanker. A port side tank wall is fitted at a distance from and parallel to the port side inland water vessel wall. Likewise a starboard side tank wall is fitted at a distance from the starboard wall of the inland waterway vessel.
