Disclosed is a method for diagnosing autism by determining the presence of high concentrations of certain peptides, analysing a tissue sample, a body liquid sample and/or a plasma sample with regard to the presence of certain peptides having the amino acid sequences SKITHRIHWESASLL, SSKITHRIHWESASLL, and SSKITHRIHWESASLLR with the molecular masses 1779 +/- 1 Da, 1865 +/-1 Da and 2022+/-1 Da, respectively.
