METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING SEVERITY OF MYXOMATOUS DEGENERATION OF CUSPS IN PRIMARY MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE

A method for diagnosing the severity of the myxomatous degeneration of the cusps in the primary mitral valve prolapse provides for echocardiography. The thickening and the extent of the degenerative alterations of the valves are assessed. The thickening of 3-4 mm is indicative of mild alterations (grade I), 5-6 mm moderate alterations (grade II), and 7-8 mm severe alterations (grade III). This technique allows one for assessing the risk of the complications and predicting the course of the disease, which is advantageous for the observation tactics and selection of the treatment schedules.
