A method of identifying symbolic data for loaded modules associated with a computer program under performance analysis, comprising: reading trace data for a loaded module, said tracking comprising at least one attribute for identifying the loaded module; to match at least one attribute with the corresponding attribute or attributes loaded identifying the loaded module comprised of a symbol file, wherein the symbol file comprises combined symbolic data from a plurality of sources of symbolic data associated with the program computer and wherein each attribute has an associated priority; and use the priority to determine symbolic data in the symbol file which best matches the trace data.
