A method forproviding an analytical solution for athermal history of a welding processhaving multiple weld passes (606-1,606-2, 606-3). The method includesthe steps of inputting a plurality offiles and parameters, preprocessinginformation from the plurality offiles and parameters to determine aset of conditions associated with thewelding process, determining a regionof influence of at least one heat source(608) used in the welding process asa function of the set of conditions,determining a plurality of point heatsource solutions within the region ofinfluence, determining a temperaturesolution for each weld pass (606-1,606-2, 606-3) as a function of asuperposition of the plurality ofpoint heat source solutions, anddetermining the thermal history of thewelding process as a function of thetemperature solutions.
