The present invention provides a method and system for facilitating ringing of one or more dual mode communication devices (125) and one or more fixed communication devices (110) in an IP-based communication system (100). The method comprises receiving (305) a first invite message corresponding to an incoming call for dual mode communication device or the fixed communication device. The method further comprises determining (310) whether the dual mode communication device and the fixed communication device are located within a predetermined area. When the dual mode communication device and the fixed communication device are located within a predetermined area, the method determines (320) whether a simultaneous ringing feature is active. If the simultaneous ringing feature is active, both the dual mode communication device and the fixed communication device are allowed to join the incoming call simultaneously (325).
