Mycelia and fruiting bodies of Auricularia auricula-judae are provided to show excellent hypolipidemic effect, thereby being effective for treating hyperlipidemia and preventing atherosclerosis. A method for preparing mycelia and fruiting bodies of Auricularia auricula-judae comprises the steps of: (a) after inoculating a culture solution of the Auricularia auricula-judae into an agar culture medium, sub-culturing it every three months; (b) after putting the cultured solution in a potato-dextrose broth having a pH of 5, starter-culturing it in a rotary shaker with the speed of 130 rpm at a temperature of 25 deg.C; (c) at 7 days after the culturing of the step(b), crushing an obtained culture solution in an aseptic condition and then inoculating 4 vol.% of the crushed material into a culture medium which consists of 20g/L of glucose, 0.5g/% of MgSO4.7H2O, 1g/L of K2HPO4, 0.46g/L of KH2PO4, 2g/L of an yeast extract, and 2g/L of peptone and has an adjusted pH of 5 before sterilization; (d) submerged mycelial culturing the culture solution including the crushed material in a rotary shaker with the speed of 120 rpm at a temperature of 25 deg.C for 10 days; (e) after precipitating a supernatant, which is obtained by centrifuging a submerged mycelial culture medium of the step(d) under 10,447xg for 20 minutes, in ethanol and leaving it at a temperature of 4 deg. for 24 hours, centrifuging it; and (f) after diluting a precipitate obtained from the centrifugation and dialyzing a diluted material, freeze-drying a dialyzed material to obtain mycelia. Mycelia of Auricularia auricula-judae prepared by the method comprise 6.02% of crude ash, 3.06% of crude fat, 32.95% of crude protein, 42.51% of carbohydrate and 15.46% of fiber. A composition for treating hyperlipidemia or for preventing atherosclerosis comprises the mycelia and fruiting bodies of Auricularia auricula-judae as an effective ingredient.
