The method involves determining static background images, and determining character images of original images, where the determination of the images is repeated to a later time point. The determined background images are added and normalized to produce an adaptive background image. A differential image of the background images and the original images is determined, and determined objects undergo a texture analysis at an edge and an interior of the object to isolate the object. Characteristics and properties of the object are determined. An independent claim is also included for a device for finding and discriminating person, animal or vehicle.
