The system (10) has a cold carrier fluid circuit (24) thermally coupled to a cold producing device (12) comprising a condenser (20), and connected to a heat load (28) to carry-off the heat from the load (28). A cold carrier fluid circuit (30) is connected to a heat load (34) to carry-off the heat from the load (34). A heat exchanger (44) in the fluid circuit (30) carries off the heat from the fluid circuit (30) to the surroundings. A coupling system selectively couples the cold carrier fluid circuits. A heat exchanger (36) is connected to one of the cold carrier fluid circuits. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooling system for cooling heat loads on board in an aircraft.
