The detection unit (1) has a high frequency (HF) transmission-receiver system (7) for transmission of HF pulses and/or receiving of magnet resonance (MR) signals. A positron emission tomography (PET) detector (4) is provided for detecting gamma-rays, and the transmission-receiver system and the detector are arranged in a longitudinal direction of a patient tunnel (13) one behind the other. A high frequency coil (7a) is arranged in the direction in front of the detector. Images of partially overlapping image volumes are acquirable with the transmission-receiver system and the detector. An independent claim is also included for a method for the operation of magnet resonance device.
