The polishing device (1) has clamping jaws (2, 3) and an optical fiber (L), where end regions of the optical fiber are arranged and adjacently fixed in the device through clamping such that end surfaces of the optical fiber are accessible together with the device. The device is formed such that a fiber-optic cable (7) is held by the clamping jaws to sharpen and polish end surfaces of the cable during adjustment of a defined length under perpendicular arrangement of the end surfaces of the cable. The jaws have special geometry at oriented surfaces (4, 5).
