The method involves monitoring control of an actuation of a clutch in a sense of closing. A number of rotary speed differences between a clutch input and a clutch output at a time point are determined, during an occurrence of a control delay. The clutch is operated again in the sense of closing. The rotary speed differences are summed, and a damage of the clutch is determined from the rotary speed difference. The damage is compared with a damage threshold, and a signal is emitted when the damage reaches the damage threshold, where the emitted signal is an acoustic or visual signal.
