The compound has a general formula (I). The compound having the formula (I), is new. R 1to R 4H, hydroxy groups, alkyl groups, 1-10C hydroxyalkyl group; R 5H, 1-4C acyl group; AO : residue selected from -CH 2CH 2O, -CH 2CHR 6O, -CHR 6CH 2O, -CH 2CH 2OHCH 2O, where R 6=1-4C alkyl; and n : 1-20. Provided that: (A) R 3and R 4are not H at the same time; (B) sum of C atoms in R 3and R 4is not greater than 18; and (C) sum of C-atoms in R 1, R 2, R 3and R 4does not exceed 36. [Image] ACTIVITY : Antimicrobial; Antiseborrheic; Dermatological. 20 ml of a 0.3 wt% solution of test substance i.e. lactic acid octylamide and lactic acid hexylamide in water was inoculated with 200 microliter of a refined 48 hour-culture of Corynebacterium xerosis or Staphylococcus epidermidis and was incubated for 3 days at 37 deg C. 1ml of each sample was extracted at a period of 1, 3, 24 and 48 hours and the bacterial count was determined. The test substance lactic acid octylamide used with the microorganism C.xerosis showed 9.1E + 5 colony forming unit (CFU)/ml at 0 hours, 3.0E + 6 CFU/ml after 3 hours and less than 2.0E + 2 CFU/ml after 48 hours, which clearly showed decrease in the colony formation of the microorganism.
