The drive has an electric motor (1) provided for actuating a function unit of a motor vehicle, where the motor is supplyable by a voltage source. The motor consists of a stator and a rotor possessing two pairs of poles, where the motor is selected from a direct current motor, synchronous motor and universal machine. A coil arrangement includes a set of coils (4) attached at a commutator (5) acting together with brushes (6-9) that are connected with the voltage source via voltage supply lines (6'- 9'). Switches are designed as independent operatable switches. An independent claim is also included for a method for an operation of an electric drive for a functional unit of a vehicle.
