The air conditioner has a coolant cycle, in which a compressor (2), a gas cooler (3) and an air flow through evaporator (6) are arranged. A regulating device is provided for compressor and temperature sensor is provided between compressor and gas cooler, which is the part of a monitoring device (12) for coolant quantity of coolant cycle. The monitoring device has a characteristic diagram for differentiation of plausible and non- plausible values and has temperature measured by temperature sensor depending on a value determined by another measuring techniques. An independent claim is also included for a method for the regulation of the air conditioner.
