The system has a refrigerant circuit in which a compressor, a gas cooler and an air-stream evaporator (6) are arranged. A controller controls the performance of the compressor. A temperature sensor (10) is provided in the area of a suction tube (9) of the evaporator. The sensor determines temperature data for controlling the performance of the compressor. A housing of the sensor is attached at an output side and is thermally coupled with the suction tube, where external temperature of the suction tube is determined by the sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an air conditioning system.
