The method for producing a vibration damper with a travel-dependent stop spring entails having a stop ring (19) which is fixed on a displacement rod (13) by a radially acting force which is created as a result of a magnetic field in interaction with an induced electric current which acts upon the stop ring. An optional cross section is used for the displacement rod and has an annular groove which serves as a positive-locking profile for the stop ring.
