The device has a shift rod (18) displaceably mounted in a gearbox housing (16) and carrying a shift-fork (22), which is interpositioned in a peripheral groove of a sliding sleeve of a synchronizer clutch. A guide (32) is provided at the shift rod or the shift-fork, and is counteractive to a rotation of the shift rod around a central axis (34). The guide and/or its force application point (32a) are positioned radially outside a connection line via a bearing center of guides (12, 14).
