The component (11) i.e. printed circuit board, has a laminar structure (13) with a layer formed from an optical cladding material, another layer formed from optical core material, and a third layer formed from an optical cladding material. An embedded optical wave guide is equipped with an optical interface (21) for an optical fiber (18). Reference surfaces are provided for adjustment against the optical interface. The surfaces are formed by a groove (17) penetrating the layers, and a groove base and a groove flank of the groove form the reference surfaces. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a component.
