The method involves receiving of dynamic data mode (Y), which belongs to a present condition of a drive (110). A drive model (130) is initialized with a part of the dynamic data mode. The dynamic data mode based value is entered partly into the drive model. The partly based value determines the present condition of the drive of the model. A drive control process is determined partly based on the condition of the drive. A control command (U) is outputted for implementing the drive control process. An independent claim is also included for an adaptive model-based control system for controlling a gas turbine drive.
