Inside a hall with seats for an audience, a ventilation system is used to distribute aromas according to changes in the entertainment. A portable unit, which collects and distributes the aroma producing substances, operates with aroma control cassettes or mixers. The aromas are distributed from nozzles at the end of distributor arms connected to main supply lines from the unit, for selective distribution, in aerosol, gaseous or fluid form. Coded control signals such as bar codes (19-22) on film are supplied to the unit, the type, mixture, duration, direction and intensity being regulated, e.g. by strips read out for valve control pulse duration (23) and control pilot signal (34). Distribution to and extraction from individual seats or blocks of seats can be controlled.
