An outer cap (310) is provided on a stem (314) to enclose a photodiode (312) for converting an optical input signal into an electrical signal, a semiconductor laser (313) for modulating the electrical signal into an optical output signal and a wavelength division multiplexing filter (315). An inner cap (311) is mounted in the outer cap to isolate the photodiode. The bidirectional optical transceiver module includes an optical waveguide (332) through which the input and output optical signals pass through. The optical waveguide is inserted and fixed in the upper end of the tubular lens holder (320). A lens (340) is provided in the upper portion of the lens holder to converge the input and output optical signals. The stem supports the lower end of a lens holder. An independent claim is also included for an optical input signal and optical output signal communicating method.
