The method involves communicating a canister (31) of a fuel vapor filter with an air inlet collector (5) of an internal combustion engine (1) by vapor inlet pipe for recycling a part of the vapor when the canister is open. An opening of the canister and an idling speed controller (47) are controlled during engine idling operation so that the controller acts on engine idling speed. The controller and an engine control unit (25) are operated with a proportional-integral-derivative controller (49).
