The method involves molding a set of identical preforms (20) each delimiting recesses (50). One of the preforms is cut along a contour (52A) to form a lateral rigid reinforcement (18A), and the reinforcement is assembled on an inner surface (22) of an outer aspect skin (16A) for forming a bumper (10A). The other preform is cut as the former preform to form another reinforcement (18B) with a contour (52B), and the latter reinforcement is assembled on another inner surface (22) of an outer aspect skin (16B) for forming a bumper (10B), where the contours are different from each other. An independent claim is also included for a series of bumpers for a motor vehicle.
