The method involves placing each bird with its wing in open condition facing a digital image input camera. An image of deployed captured wings is retained for processing image by the camera. The image is chosen to correspond to a state of deployment of wings that is marked automatically as significant of span for optimal development. The retained image is subjected to automatic image processing implying a comparison with reference image from which an attribute to be assigned to a bird is deduced. An independent claim is also included for an installation for examining feather of birds.
