Cell culture medium comprises an amino acid mixture, mineral salts, sugars, organic acids, nitrogen sources and vitamins and/or antioxidants. The amino acid mixture comprises (mole% +- 20%): alanine (9.93), arginine (5.54), asparagine (5.09), aspartic acid (1.7), cystine (4.13), optionally glutamine (16.35), glutamic acid (2.29), glycine (6.2), histidine (4.58), isoleucine (1.96), leucine (3.71), lysine (5.61), methionine (0.81), phenylalanine (1.59), proline (9.52), serine (9.96), threonine (5.68), tryptophan (0.52), tyrosine (1.11) and valine (3.74). Independent claims are also included for: (1) cell multiplication by culturing cells in a medium as above; (2) producing a protein of interest (I) by culturing (I)-expressing cells in a medium as above and optionally harvesting (I); (3) producing a virus (II) by culturing (II)-infected cells in a medium as above and optionally harvesting (II).
