Fuel particle mass estimating method for e.g. diesel engine, has comparison unit comparing mass of particles at starting of phase and mass of eliminated particles during phase to determine mass of particles remaining within filter
The system has a pressure sensor (38) determining differential pressure at terminals of a particle filter (23) at start of a regeneration phase, and a temperature sensor (36) determining the temperature in the downstream of the filter during the phase. A determination unit determines the mass of eliminated particles based on a set point temperature and the temperature. A comparison unit compares the mass of particles at the start of phase determined by a determination unit and the mass of eliminated particles during the phase to determine the mass of particles remaining within the filter. An independent claim is also included for a method for estimating the mass of particles retained in a particle filter mounted on an exhaust line of an internal combustion engine.
