A musical instrument teaching aid, for example for use with a guitar, comprises a camera 5 and a display screen 2. The camera may be attached adjacent to the playing area, preferably via the use of a capo. The camera 5 captures images from the playing area of the musical instrument and displays them, preferably in real time and along with finger guides, on the display screen 2. The camera 5 may be adjustably mounted onto the musical instrument and may use a wide angle lens, shift lens or fisheye lens. The teaching aid may be controlled using computer software and a wireless pointing device.
