PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information retrieval device equipped with failure resistance for quickly recovering from any failure at low costs when the failure is occurred in a part of this system. PSOLUTION: This information retrieval device includes distributed server devices 11 to 13 having a plurality of distributed indexes for storing a part of information to be retrieved, and configured to store the backup copy of the distributed indexes stored in one of the plurality of distributed server devices in the other distributed server device among the plurality of distributed server devices. This information retrieval device includes a distributed index restoration means (management server device 14, and distributed index management parts 115, 125, and 135) for, when any failure is occurred in the distributed index or the distributed server device, restoring the distributed indexes by the backup in the distributed server device in which the backup of the distributed indexes is stored.
