PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate synthetic sound which is much closer to actual engine sound. PSOLUTION: An operating condition of an engine is divided into a plurality of operating condition ranges employing a throttle opening degree and engine rotational speed as parameters. A plurality of engine sound data are stored in an engine sound storage section 102 for each operating condition range. Synthetic engine sound data of a first cylinder is generated by combining a plurality of engine sound data included in an operating condition range specified by throttle opening degree data "a" and engine rotational speed data "b". Synthetic engine sound data of a second cylinder is generated by delaying the synthetic engine sound data of the first cylinder by delay time between cylinders. Fluctuation (variation) of sound pressure is added to the synthetic engine sound data of the first and the second cylinders by first and second fluctuation processors 211 and 212.
