PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover high-purity metal beryllium by enhancing the efficiency in recovering beryllium by improving decontamination treatment effects to lower thermal decomposition temperature to 1,400°C or lower, especially 1,000°C or lower, when beryllium halide is generated from spent and activated beryllium and metal beryllium is also recovered by thermal decomposition.;SOLUTION: A method includes the process for generating beryllium halide, either chlorinated beryllium, brominated beryllium or iodinated beryllium, by inducing halogenation reaction with a chlorine gas, a bromine gas or an iodine gas, separating non-volatile impurities and radioactive cobalt on the occasion and also mixing a chemically active hydrogen gas with the generated beryllium halide and the process for converting beryllium halide into metal beryllium and a cracked gas of hydrogen chloride, hydrogen bromide or hydrogen iodide through the thermal decomposition of beryllium halide in the presence of a hydrogen gas.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
