PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high voltage, high speed and high pulse repetition rate pulse generator (30) which solves high pulse repetition rate limitations associated with an RF power amplifier.;SOLUTION: A pulse generator (30) employs resonance techniques to provide current limiting features that allows for continued high voltage, high speed and high repetition pulse rate operation of the pulse generator (30) without impairment of the pulse generator (30) during both short circuit and open circuit load conditions. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the pulse generator (30) comprises: an inverter (40) configured to convert a DC voltage into a high-frequency AC voltage; a converter (50) configured to operate as an AC current source in response to the AC voltage; and a pulse shaping portion (60) configured to generate a high-voltage, high-speed and high repetition rate voltage pulse in response to an AC input current generated by the AC current source.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
