PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission rate setting device which attains the mutual transmission of information even when a device having relatively low transmission rate capability is connected.;SOLUTION: When a transmission rate between a plurality of devices connected to an IEEE 1394 serial bus as a network is set, a corresponding rate of a physical layer of a device present on a physical path between a transmission device and a reception device is detected and the transmission rate of the transmission device and the transmission rate of the reception device are detected (S41) to set a transmission rate at which data can be transmitted from the reception device to the transmission device (step S43).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
