PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice-cultivating material capable of reducing the amount of cadmium absorption to the rice by one more step, and a method for cultivating the rice. PSOLUTION: This rice-cultivating material is characterized by consisting of a calcium cyanamide-containing material and a manganese-containing material and having 15-250 pt. mass manganese component of the manganese-containing material based on 100 pts. mass calcium cyanamide component of the calcium cyanamide-containing material. Here, it is preferable to have 2-5 mm mean particle diameter. The method for cultivating the rice is provided by using the cyanamide-containing material by 60-280 kg as the calcium cyanamide and the manganese-containing material by 50-150 kg as the manganese, per 1 ha.
