PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify the number of dot lines of digital image data for executing filter processing suitable for the number of dot lines in order to sufficiently remove dot components, and to prevent the excessive smoothing of the edge part of a character or the like. PSOLUTION: Digital image data are filter-processed by a plurality of space frequency filters, and the dispersion value of each of the filter-processed digital image data is calculated so that the number of dot lines of the digital image data can be specified based on the dispersion value. Thus, it is possible to execute the filter processing which is the most suitable for the number of dot lines.
