PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new dialkoxybenzilic acid derivative useful as a gelling agent or a solidifying agent for organic solvents, etc.;SOLUTION: The dialkoxybenzilic acid derivative is expressed by general formula (I) (R¹ and R² are each independently a 6-14C alkyl; and R³ is H, an alkali metal or ⁺NR⁴R⁵R⁶ (R⁴, R⁵ and R⁶ are each independently H, methyl or ethyl)).
