A method for improving the Hydraulic performance of the Clay is modified by adding a component to the Clay Silica containing free Silica or Silicon Material conveniently, The Clay is a Clay Sodium Bentonite content Expandable Smectite over 70% in weight.The modified Clay can be used in Geosynthetic Clay Coatings used for containment of Strong Alkaline solutions as well as other Barrier Systems.Claim 40: a method of producing a Clay barrier for an Alkaline Solution, characterized in that it comprises: (a) analyse the free Silica content of Clay; (b) comparing the free Silica content of the Clay with a value associated to resist White Cia Alkaline; (c) contacting the Clay,With an analysis of Free Silica acceptable over 5 - 10% by weight of silica, with an Alkaline solution; and (d) use the treated Clay, with an analysis of Free Silica acceptable as a barrier to alkaline Solutions.
