The present invention relates to a process for preparing fatty acid methyl esters by transesterification of triglycerides, particularly from rapeseed oil and apparatus for making the same wherein the process is characterized by separating residues of glycerin phase form ester phase by cooling the ester phase leaving a third reactor (4) within a cooler (5) down to 30 to 50 degC and than supplying thereof in a coagulator (6) at the inlet of which the glycerin phase from a second separator (7) is supplied along with the glycerin phase from a first separator (3) in such a ratio as to make the ratio of the glycerin phase to the ester phase in the coagulator (6) within the range of 1:3 to 3:1.
