The invention relates to NOR-1 as a novel target in humans for diagnosing and following-up cardiovascular diseases associated with the activation of NOR-1 or for monitoring, following-up or assessing the effectiveness of pharmacological treatments for said cardiovascular diseases. The invention also relates to NOR-1 as a therapeutic target which can be used to identify novel therapeutic compounds for the treatment of the aforementioned diseases and the design of novel gene therapy protocols.
