A method for improving multicast transmission efficiency based on random network coding, includes the steps of: an upstream node in the network receiving and storing the data block information that sent by a downstream node of the upstream node itself and received yet by the downstream node; according to the stored data block information of the downstream node and the received data block information of the upstream node itself, a data block with new information is formed by means of network coding, the upstream node obtaining a sending chance and sending the data block with new information to the downstream node. A device for improving multicast transmission efficiency based on random network coding, includes a packet receiving module (61), a downstream node data buffering module (62), a packet buffering module (63), a packet transmitting module (64) and a linear combining module (65). The invention can avoid the wastage of bandwidth and improve the multicast efficiency.
