PURPOSE: A wire for controlling calcium in molten steel is provided which solves problems due to oxidation of the surface of iron particles and is economical and metallurgically superior compared to a conventional wire, and a method for controlling calcium in molten steel using the wire is provided. CONSTITUTION: In a wire for controlling calcium in molten steel an outer part of which is formed of steel sheet, a central part of which is surrounded by steel sheet, and in the central part of which a calcium based mixed body is contained, the wire for controlling calcium in molten steel is characterized in that the calcium based mixed body comprises calcium powder, a material containing calcium oxide corresponding to 0.5 to 9 times of weight of the calcium powder, and carbon powder of 10 to 30 wt.% of calcium powder. In a method for controlling calcium in molten steel by putting a calcium based wire into molten steel, the method for controlling calcium in molten steel is characterized in that calcium in molten steel is adjusted by putting the wire for controlling calcium in molten steel into molten steel in such a way that weight of calcium supplied per a ton of molten steel is 15 to 350 g per minute.
